Iris Robie is a confident woman that has been through plenty, but still keeps smiling. It is unclear to me why beauty is not considered a noble quality to admire. For example, it is ok to appreciate talents such as intelligence, creativity, or athletic ability, but when you can't take your eyes off a woman's appearance, you run the risk of being labeled shallow. Same goes for people who strive to improve their physical appeal. I am not saying that dieting or going to gym is the exact same thing as reading a book, but in a way, aren't they very similar? It is interesting how differently you are viewed if you pay the compliment "wow, you are so smart" compared to "wow, you have a nice body."
